He is a knight of the Legion of Honor since February 2007. He discovered the Mission Ranch in Carmel, California, when he was 21, while he worked on a nearby ranch. He bought it in 1986 when developers wanted to transform the place into condos, it was built in the 1800s.

He received the Oscar for Best Director for Million Dollar Baby in 2004.

He shot an ad for Chrysler during the Superbowl.
